Everyday, we get up. Everyday, we work. Some days we find a good foothold, smile with contentment, and pull ourselves up. Other days we spend the sunlight clinging to rock just to keep from sliding down. Either way, our days are spent in hard work.
This never ends. We wake up. We climb. We fall. We wake up. We climb. And maybe we don’t fall. But no matter how hard we work, at the end of the day there is always mountain left to be climbed. We will never reach the top. Instead, the hope is that on the morning the sun rises over the mountainside and shines on the shell of our lifeless body, we will have climbed higher than we fell.
So, whether today you are gaining distance or losing ground, find a spot to stop for a moment. From whatever height you’ve reached, take some time out and enjoy the view. You’ve been climbing for years and made it this far. At this height, there is so much more to see than just the rock and dirt in front of you.
I commend to you the enjoyment of life, because for someone who toils under the sun, there is nothing better than to eat, drink, and be glad. Then joy will accompany you in your work all the days of the life God has given you to toil under the sun. (Ecc. 8.15)
Life is a mountain. Enjoy the climb, there is no top.
